About the 5k:
Of the 40,000 members of the New York City Police Department, it is estimated that nearly 5,000 members have a child with special needs. In addition to the daily stresses associated with protecting and serving the city, those with special needs children have to deal with added financial, emotional and physical challenges. The 5k is intended to not only raise funds for these families but provide a platform that embodies support for these families throughout the entire police department and
beyond. 100% of the profits from this event will be donated to two organizations that assist the men and women of the NYPD
Patrol Borough Brooklyn North
The Police Reserve Association was established on April 1, 1918 by New York City Police Commissioner Richard Enright. Since inception, nearly 100 years ago, we have played a crucial role in supporting the men and women of the NYPD by boosting moral and recognizing exemplary behavior Additionally, we have contributed to the bulletproof vest program, and bicycle program for patrol officers. Most notably, we provide scholarships to both members of the NYPD as well as their children. The Police Reserve Association has donated millions of dollars to vital NYPD programming and look forward to continuing
this work for the next 100 years. We are a 501(c)(3) designated charity and we have achieved the BBB’s seal of approval only given to the most closely audited charities.
Today, the Police Reserve Association works closely with the Executive Corp of the NYPD as well as the line, religious, fraternal and ethnic organizations in an effort to give New York City's almost 40,000 police officers the support they so urgently need. Towards that end we are now embarking on this journey to recognize and help the members of the NYPD that have children with special needs.
